News from Michelle Malkin>>> yesterday’s blog:

“SEIU-endorsed Gov. Pat Quinn signed an executive order in June approving collective bargaining by “individual providers of home-based support services” — effectively busting open the doors of private homes for the Purple Shirts of the SEIU and other union competitors hungry for new dues-paying members. SEIU and its minions leaned hard on providers to join — even sending out-of-state workers to intrude on families with the promise of juicy benefits and health care coverage. Democrat officials tried to intimidate parents like Pam Harris into silence over their efforts to inform providers that they could vote for no representation.

The thuggery backfired. Bigtime.”

Thanks to the efforts of the families caring for disabled family members in their homes, this attempt did not stand:

This from Michelle Malkin’s Oct 5th post:

“Pam Harris of Western Springs, Illinois, the mother of a 20-year-old son with severe developmental disabilities who receives in-home care stipends, questioned the state’s failure to make a no-representation option clear. She and other parents dared to criticize the union effort publicly in a piece published September 3 in the Chicago Tribune. (”I am not an employee of the state,” Harris said. “I work from my home. I don’t want the union in my home. I can Norma Rae with the rest of them.”) Harris and other parents scraped together their own money (no match for Big Labor coffers) and put together an informational flyer to counter-balance the pro-union propaganda and inform home-based providers that they could opt for no union representation.”

Way to Go Pam Harris of Illinois!!

Parents beware! According to a leaked network memo from the Entertainment Industry Foundation, there will be a media push for “volunteerism” and “service” from Oct 19-25 on 60 network TV shows*. According to the memo Pres. Obama has called for this action. It sounds like a worthy cause, right? Read John Nolte’s article here>>>

Well, in part it may be a good thing but according to Stage Right at Big Hollywood. Breitbart.com

If your 12 year-old hears about this volunteer initiative and follows the lead of her favorite TV star, she will go to www.createthegood.com and type in her favorite cause.  If she’s been paying attention to the news these days (or listening to the lectures from most public school teachers) she will know that “Health Care” is a big deal these days.  All she has to do is type “Health Care” into the search engine with her zip code (let’s say 90210 cause we love those adorable Beverly Hills high school kids) and she’ll get a whole host of opportunities to serve.

Go ahead… open that link and you’ll see twelve opportunities to serve.  Look at items “H”, “I” and “L.”  All are from Planned Parenthood:

“With President Obama’s focus on health-care reform, now is an exciting and crucial time for us to broaden our support and make sure that the new health-care plan includes women’s health. We’re holding a series of phone banks to identify new people who share our commitment to reproductive freedom.” Read the rest of the article here>>>

Other websites that will be promoted are iparticipate and serv.gov

From Patrick Courrielche

By itself though, there is nothing nefarious about pushing volunteerism. However, there have been many warning signs that the White House is attempting to politicize national service. Read the rest of his article here>>>
